Small todo list update
Since the todo list is pretty much an XML database like the others - but with question marks instead of title codes - there's a lot of information already contained within. It can't hurt to display this stuff, I thought.
Whereas the list previously showed an entry for the first region in which the game is due for release, it now shows the other, later releases as indented entries for readability. I think I actually made the list a bit harder to read by including release dates, though.

Big todo list update
Yeah, as of this news post, there are
300 games to add. Some of them are due for release; some of them have been out for months.
There have also been some other less obvious things going on, as usual: A
new hardware category, all hot and ready to be filled with games. Some information in the database was causing problems with the template system, so I thought it was about time to write a GOOD one that doesn't rely on
eval(). OMG!

So it turns out that the discussion board was broken
Who would've thunk it?
Since it was fixed, there have been various corrections and submissions of Scandinavian game data from
sguy. Yay to him!

Game listings return (with some new stuff)
Thanks for all the requests to bring them back
Also, the previously mentioned list of hardware / accessories / services has been added.
The things I do for you.

Todo list is back
The list of upcoming and cancelled games wot used to be below all this news has returned, and
it's all on its own page.

Version 3.0 is here!
Yeah, about that new site design... it seems that CSS3's table emulation is a bit crap, so the previous layout has simply been tweaked. I still had to rebuild the backend though, so there will initially be some features that don't appear to work - such as game listings.
But the point of the redesign was to enable new things. You can check the page footer for the time the database was last updated . Also, all titles for a particular code will appear together in the list, and some of these titles will even appear in the language native to their region. If you can't read moonspeak, mouseover the titles for some help.
The
discussion board remains unchanged (HINT HINT).

Version 3.0 on the way
I've been a bit lax with keeping the databases up-to-date, because I've been completely redoing them. Lots of games have release dates, and instead of reading all the XML databases individually, the new site will be able to compile everything into a serialised string. The benefits are immense!
Games with code aliases that span different "system" letters should be fully supported, since the entire database will be available. Two examples of this are:
R5WE, SHLP, R5WJ = Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
RPWZ, SPXP, RPWX = Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
For example, the page for the European release of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories currently will not list the other releases at the bottom, like it should. The new site has no problem with this.
For those of you who rely on the AnyTitle Deleter database export feature, the database creation date will actually show the time that the compiled database was uploaded / created, rather than the time you sent the request to this site. This creation time will be available on the new site, to help decide if it's worth updating your database.txt file.
Also planned are numerous speed tweaks for speed freaks, and OH A NEW SITE DESIGN.

Oooh icons
There are a few new things to feed your eyeballs with: various icons to represent the extra features of each game, such as internet connectivity and accessories.
This thing comes in handy for defending youself from intruders to your home (and keeps you fit while doing it).
I'll eventually get around to making a nice list of games which support each thing.

DOWNTIME
For the past few weeks, MagmaGateau's host has been subjected to that nastiest of internet attacks, the DDoS. While I could have switched hosts (again), I've had NO feedback about this service, therefore I don't know how important it really is.
Despite this, I've been keeping everything* up-to-date for the three of you who probably care.
*Except for the desktop app. That is now discontinued.

Oh, more of those chocolate-covered updates
You may now enter 6-character codes in the search box. Six! How people would even know what the last two are is beyond me.
Also added the "event" feature to the scripts and database.
The only event currently supported is the
Hanabi Festival, though.
UPDATE (19th Mar): Although not technically an event, support for
Club Nintendo exclusive releases has been added.

Minor updates to region-encoding relationship gubbins
If anything appears to be broken, please post a bug report in the discussion board.
Assuming that isn't broken, too.

There is a Discussion Board!
I quickly hacked up a
discussion board for those who would like to leave feedback about this service.
Even though it's based on imageboard software, you can't actually post images. Just words. Maybe if there's enough demand for it, the feature will be re-enabled.

New host
And the world continues to turn.
P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAAAARGH
UPDATE (3rd Feb): Yeah it's back again

13th Dec 2009
Compounding confusion, one feature at a time
Reviewing how all this stuff works, I thought "hey it's a bit weird how typing in the system identifier (R, W, etc.) sends users to the first game in the list". It's weird because it may not be obvious that it's the first game in the list - the list which people are expecting to see when they see a link in the menu with a number after it, which insinuates that there are many listable things to see.
SUMMARY: I changed the scripts so that you can now have title lists.
Please enjoy them.

2nd Dec 2009
Filled more cavities with expanding XML foam
Finally got around to moving some things from the todo list (as seen below), namely Virtual Console and Arcade titles. Even the [TBC] titles have been discovered!
UPDATE: Also sorted out how the scripts deal with databases shared between more than one "system",
I.E.
Virtual Console Arcade /
Neo-Geo and
MSX /
WiiWare (Demos).

20th Nov 2009
WiiWare Demos fucked the MSX database
Right up the arse

Ugh downtime
So apparently some webhosts think a "moment" is over a week long. I would beg to differ, but I'm not paying for any of this.
Ha!

What rhymes with Jack Black? That's right, FAQ'S BACK
OK, so that doesn't completely rhyme, but now there are some hopefully helpful links ("What's this?") to relevant sections of the FAQ sprinkled around the site, and individual FAQ items can be direct linked - show all your friends!

Oops
The AnyTitle Deleter database export thingy was broken for a while. Sorry about that.
UPDATE (31st Oct): I broke it again lol

Oh, this looks different
Hopefully no-one will notice that I've already used this layout

Hosting issues hopefully solved
The site has been up 'n' down a bit lately; this is due to a compromise on a previous host. Profuse apologies go to the three people who rely on the services provided by this project.

More AnyTitle Deleter tweeeaks
The ATD export thing now considers import VC titles when choosing a region code which has such aliases (
read more about that here).
Also added LOADS of stuff to the Wii disc games databases. There are two of them, because "R" is starting to get full.
|
10th Sep 2009
Gaps filled in the VC Arcade database
Well... most of them. There are still 4 unconfirmed titles, but I'm sure the information will turn up. There has also been some general tidying up of the scripts and databases.

04th Sep 2009
AnyTitle Deleter Export-o-tron Updated
I discovered that names must in fact be
34 characters or less. To make sure I'm doing this right, the lists are now formatted to show how far you can go with letters.
It's about time I linked it, too.
|
31st Aug 2009
MSX games added to database
All two of them
holy shit
|
25th Aug 2009
Oh hey, there's a front page
As well as links to each "system" catalogued in the database, there is also a huge list of games (upcoming / already released / cancelled).
If you can provide codes for any already released games, please let me know by emailing me via the link at the bottom of the page.

Allegedly...
...This is when the project began. I'm just going by the creation date of my localhost/nindb folder. My mind's getting old. Have you heard the crap kids listen to these days, etc.
